Description
Garlic Thanksgiving Turkey is a flavor-packed twist on the classic holiday centerpiece, infused with the savory essence of garlic, rosemary, and thyme.
Ingredients
1 whole turkey (preferably organic)
2 tablespoon fresh garlic (minced)
1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
1/4 cup fresh rosemary (chopped)
1/4 cup fresh thyme (chopped)
1 lemon (juiced and zested)
to taste salt
to taste black pepper
Instructions
1. 1. Thoroughly clean and pat dry the turkey.
2. 2. Make the garlic-herb butter by combining minced garlic, softened butter, chopped rosemary, chopped thyme, lemon juice, and lemon zest in a bowl. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
3. 3. Carefully loosen the skin of the turkey and gently rub the garlic-herb butter directly onto the meat underneath the skin. Rub any remaining butter over the outside of the turkey skin.
4. 4. Allow the turkey to marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or up to 24 hours.
5. 5. Preheat your oven to 325°F.
6. 6. Place the prepared turkey in a large roasting pan and cover loosely with aluminum foil. Roast the turkey, basting it every 30 minutes until the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the breast and 180°F in the thigh.
7. 7. Plan for 13-15 minutes of cooking time per pound of turkey.
8. 8. Once done, remove from oven and let it rest for 20-30 minutes before carving and serving.
Notes
Pairs beautifully with mashed potatoes, roasted root vegetables, or a fresh green salad. Consider making a garlic-infused gravy or creamy garlic-herb sauce to serve alongside.
