Description
Grandma Dot’s iconic stuffing balls are a beloved holiday tradition, bringing together generations with comforting flavors and heartwarming nostalgia.
Ingredients
1 loaf bread, cubed
1 cup celery, chopped
1 cup onion, chopped
1/2 cup butter
2 cup chicken broth
1 teaspoon dried sage
1 teaspoon dried thyme
Salt and pepper to taste
2 eggs, beaten
Instructions
1. 1. Start by cubing the bread and allowing it to dry out for a few hours, or even overnight.
2. 2. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped celery and onion, and sauté until they’re softened and fragrant, about 5-7 minutes.
3. 3. Transfer the sautéed vegetables to a large mixing bowl, along with the dried bread cubes. Pour in the chicken broth and gently toss everything together.
4. 4. Add the dried sage, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to distribute the seasonings evenly.
5. 5. Crack the beaten eggs into the bowl and gently incorporate them into the stuffing.
6. 6. Form the stuffing mixture into bite-sized balls, compacting them gently to help them hold their shape.
Notes
For a crispier texture, fry the stuffing balls in batches in a large skillet with vegetable oil for 2-3 minutes per side.
Ensure they reach an internal temperature of 165°F to prevent drying out.
